Whilst this weeks news agenda was dominated by whether BBC sport presenters should have an opinion….there was another story to take note of.
🌊 New research has found that 171 trillion pieces of plastic are now estimated to be floating in the world's oceans
🌊 This figure will triple by 2040 if we don’t change behaviours
🌊 The Med now officially contains the highest concentration of plastic
🌊 Authors of the research conclude “ Environmental recovery of plastic has limited merit, solution strategies must address those systems that restrict emissions of plastic pollution in the first place”
🌊 Solutions must focus on reducing the amount of plastic produced and used because recycling systems are broken
🌊 The beauty industry is a huge contributor to the plastic issue
🌊 So just as most of us now feel a bit guilty buying a single use bottle of water, we need to extend this mindfulness to every area of our lives, including beauty
🌊 New habits will need to be formed, but we are capable. Reusable shopping bags, water bottles, coffee cups, we are gradually shifting our behaviours
🌊 So try and switch to solid skincare, solid shampoos, plastic-free deodorants…there are so many amazing brands out there challenging the legacy industries beholden to plastic production
🌊 We can change the graph
